When it gets hot, I think it helps to know someone with a swimming pool.
That way, you can impose on them and cool off.
It doesn’t hurt to splash the people outside the pool, too. They appreciate it, even if they say that they don’t.
You can also take the opportunity to teach your little sister to swim.
And just hanging by the pool is fun, too.

CareBear loves to go down slides. She goes down big slides at the various playgrounds we visit with little to no apprehension. She’s a big kid who goes down big slides. So why did the little slide in her backyard cause her to panic?
You can do it, CareBear!
Of course, it’s easier when someone catches you…

Happy Spring!Â
We had a nice week, though not nearly as exciting as last week. It was pretty low key around here and we managed to get some stuff done. All good.
CareBear had her 3-year doctor’s appointment last week. She was very brave, of course. There weren’t any vaccinations, but they did a finger stick to check her hematocrit (for anemia, she’s fine but they like to screen for it) and she had her first TB test. I’m guessing a needle stick is a needle stick to her. Anyway, she’s good and healthy! She’s right on track for height and weight for her age and doing all the right stuff. We do need to go back in a month to get her vision checked again and then they’ll decide if she needs more testing. I guess they wait for two abnormal tests before referring kids to an eye doctor. I wouldn’t be too surprised if she needed glasses.. she seems to see ok, but Chris is mostly blind and there are plenty of people with glasses in the family!
LiliBee decided to start talking more, finally! She’s been picking up words and sounds a lot faster in the last couple of weeks and will now ask for snacks and water with her own words instead of waiting for CareBear to translate. LiliBee has also decided to take her fashion advice from CareBear… whenever CareBear strips (a daily occurrence), LiliBee does too. Whenever CareBear is a dancer, LiliBee is too. There are a lot more costume changes going on these days!
Chris’ trial is moving right along. The prosecution rested last week and it looks like the defense is going to rest this week. Then it’s all deliberations and verdicts and he can finally tell me all about it! I did my own research and figured out what the case was way back in the beginning, but it will be nice to get to hear all of the courtroom stuff once it’s over.
We’ve got some fun stuff to do this week! The girls and I are heading down to Centralia to visit my Aunt (yay for birthday lunch). And I’m hoping to get my hair cut… that may not sound like a big deal, but it only happens once or twice a year!

CareBear borrowed my camera this morning.
She sat in Chris’ chair for awhile taking pictures… I wasn’t paying too much attention to what she was doing.
Then she told me that she was done and gave me back the camera.
Out of curiosity, I checked the memory card to see what was so fascinating about the view from Chris’ chair.
Apparently, it was her shoes.

We’re having a lazy Sunday. For the first time in forever, we don’t have anything that we actually need to do. Lots of things that we should do, some things that we will do, but nothing that we have to do.
Chris made us a yummy blueberry pancake breakfast while the kids and I had story time. He also made me an omelet! Then, after some playing, we headed out into the rain.
CareBear rode her “bike” while LiliBee kicked back in the stroller. We took a leisurely stroll around the neighborhood and down to the main road. On the way back home, CareBear decided that it was too cold and rainy to steer so she kept her hands in her pockets and let Chris do all of the work.
LiliBee laughed and hummed most of the way but started to zone out toward the end of the walk. She wasn’t too far from falling asleep, I think! We’re going to have a nice lunch of everyone’s favorite mac & cheese before nap/quiet time.Â
We’ll probably have to actually do something productive after that, but the lazy Sunday morning has been pretty fun!

We did some “fun with arts and crafts” today… made all the more exciting by the inclusion of  markers. Getting to use markers is a special treat around here ever since we confiscated all of them… I got tired of making them clean the drawings off of the couch. No matter how many markers I put away, they were always able to find another one when I wasn’t looking!
Anyway, everyone had a good time. We colored. CareBear drew suns and lakes and cars (though I only know that because she told me that’s what they were). LiliBee made pretty squiggles and many joyful noises over being included in the marker fun. Everyone was coloring nicely and no one was eating the markers.
And then it all went wrong. I swear, I only went into the kitchen for a minute (and my kitchen even has line of sight to the dining room table) and this is what found when I came back. LiliBee is a very sneaky kid.
If you look closely, you can see that LiliBee’s tongue is a bit yellow. I can only hope that the “non-toxic” claim on the box really is valid!

The couch cushions are a source of endless fascination for both kids… it’s quite entertaining to watch LiliBee manhandling something several times her size!
Usually, Chris or I get the honor of building the cushion “houses” for them, but today their favorite relative did it.
And, even better, he made a house with multiple wings!
No wonder he’s their favorite.

LiliBee is getting the hang of walking in shoes (it’s kind of hit and miss) and she had a lot of fun playing in the snow with the puppies. We only had a little bit of snow (less than an inch), but that probably made it easier to practice walking outside.

It’s already Thursday… I feel like I haven’t done much all week! That’s not entirely true as we’ve had some big advances in potty training and bedtime routines and everyone’s been fed and bathed and clothed, but I just don’t feel overly productive. Maybe it’s the mid-winter lull. It’s interesting to see how differently we all react to the winter season.
CareBear is a warm-blooded kid. She doesn’t like to wear her coat (or even clothes sometimes) no matter how cold it gets.  It’s the middle of winter and she’s become fascinated by the idea of sleeping in a tent and camping out. Chris made her a tent in the living room and she was an actual “happy camper”. I wonder if she’ll still be excited about it when we actually go camping in a couple of years.
LiliBee is a cuddle bug these days. She’s always been a chilly baby who likes to bundle up and snuggle. She’s thrilled that she can climb up on the couch or bed all by herself now to get to her blanket. She also likes to bring me stories to read… of course, I’ve been reading “10 Little Monkeys” for a couple of years now so all of the suspense is gone.
Me? I could go for one of those “long winter naps”.
